What is Practice mode?¶
Practice mode is for accountants and bookkeepers who manage other businesses' books. It gives you a workspace for handling many client businesses from one place.
Becoming a practice¶
- When you sign up, turn on the Accountant / Bookkeeper toggle.
- After signing up you'll set up your practice: enter your Practice name, choose your Agent type (Tax Agent, BAS Agent or Payroll Service Provider), and optionally add your ABN and address. You can look up your ABN to pre-fill details.
- Once your practice is created you land on the Practice Dashboard.
What you get straight away¶
Your sidebar switches to a practice workspace. Without any paid plan you can already:
- Use the Practice Dashboard — a client pipeline and compliance health at a glance.
- Add and manage clients under Clients — including Add Client, Request Access and Import from ATO. See How do I manage my clients?
- Open any client's books with Open in client view.
- Run your practice's own books — Business, Bank, Invoices, Contacts, Documents and Reports appear under the Practice heading, depending on your own plans.
What the Accountant Practice plan unlocks¶
Getting the Accountant Practice plan on Settings → Billing adds the premium practice tools:
- Activity — a cross-client log of what's happened across your clients.
- Team — invite team members and control which clients they can work on (practice owner only). See How do I manage my practice team?
- Practice Payroll and Practice Tax — work across your clients' payroll and activity statements without leaving the practice workspace. See How do I run payroll for a client?
- A 25% accountant discount on client subscriptions you manage and pay for. Without an active practice plan you can still buy plans for clients, but at the full price.
If your practice plan isn't active, a banner reminds you that these tools are locked — your clients and dashboard stay available.
Working in a client's books¶
Your sidebar normally shows your practice tools. To work inside a specific client, open the client and choose Open in client view — the app switches into that client's account, with the usual business tools. Use Back to Practice at the top of the sidebar to return.
