What happens to bank lines from before Caia was switched on?¶
Caia works from the books start date, the date shown as Caia keeps the books from. Bank lines are treated in one of three ways, depending on their date and what has already happened to them.
Lines dated on or after the start date¶
Caia sorts these, starting with the newest lines.
Lines that were already in the bank when you switched Caia on, but are dated on or after the start date, form the backlog. Caia works through the backlog a batch at a time, biggest first, across the daily runs. A large backlog can take several days.
If your AI allowance runs out during the backlog, the backlog pauses. The lines that are left stay as they are and are picked up by the next run. See How does Caia's AI allowance work?
Lines dated before the start date¶
Caia does not post these. They are listed in Caia's check of your books as Bank lines are dated before your books start, with the note that Caia has left them alone.
To deal with them, use the Bank page: sort them yourself, or leave them as they are.
Lines you have already sorted, or lines in a locked period¶
- Lines you sorted yourself are left alone. Caia does not change them.
- Lines in a locked period, or on or before the date your books are locked up to, are skipped. Caia reports them, and they are never posted.
Choosing or changing the start date¶
- The start date must be the 1st of a month.
- A later start date means fewer older lines for Caia to work through.
- You cannot change the start date while opening balances are saved. Clear them first.
- You cannot set the start date on or before the date your books are locked up to, or inside a BAS period that has been lodged.
