How does Caia handle wages, super and ATO payments?

Wages, super and ATO payments are not sorted as ordinary expenses. Caia matches each one to what Myaccountant says is owed, so the payment clears the right pay run, super batch or BAS, rather than being booked a second time.

What Caia matches to

When Caia clears what is owed

Caia clears a payment against what is owed only when the match is clear. A pay run must be finished, and its figures must not have changed since it was booked. If more than one pay run, batch or BAS could be the payment, Caia does not choose between them.

If the payment matches nothing that is owed, Caia can record it for your review under Done — please review. This happens when the payment is posted to the expense or ATO liability account, and you should check it.

When Caia sets the line aside

Caia sets the line aside under Needs you when:

  • more than one pay run, batch or BAS could be the payment,
  • the pay run it looks like is not finished yet,
  • the pay run changed after it was booked, or
  • the payment looks like a wages, super or ATO payment, but Caia cannot find anything owed that matches it.

The sentences Caia uses for these are listed in How do I answer a Needs you question?

Payments you made by hand

If you, or your bookkeeper, already paid a pay run, super batch or BAS by hand, and sorted that bank line yourself, Caia links the payment to what it paid. Caia then does not pay it a second time.

If Caia cannot tell which payment it was, it sets the line aside and says that the item may already have been paid by hand. Check before Caia books it.

If you change your mind about a payment you sorted, undo the sort on the Bank page. The payment goes back to the Uncategorised tab.
