My bank feed says Reconnect Required — how do I fix it?¶
When you connect a bank, you give it permission to share your transactions with myaccountant through Open Banking. That permission only lasts for a limited time — when it runs out, or you withdraw it at your bank, the bank stops sharing and the connection shows Reconnect Required. Your accounts and everything already imported are safe; new transactions just stop arriving until you reconnect.
Reconnecting¶
Step 1. Go to Bank in the sidebar. A bank that needs attention shows a red Reconnect Required badge on its card, with the message "Connection expired. Please reconnect to continue receiving transactions."
Step 2. Click Reconnect on that red banner. The same option is in the bank card's ⋮ menu, and you'll also find a Reconnect button at the top of each of that bank's account pages.
Step 3. A secure window titled Update Bank Credentials opens. Log in with your online banking details and approve sharing your data again, just like when you first connected. myaccountant never sees your banking password.
Step 4. You'll see "Bank credentials updated successfully." The badge returns to Connected and new transactions begin syncing again. Click Sync (top right of the Bank page) to pull the latest transactions straight away.
What happens to my existing transactions?¶
Nothing. Reconnecting only renews the bank's permission to share new data — every transaction already imported, and everything you've categorised, stays exactly as it was.
When should I disconnect and relink instead?¶
If reconnecting keeps failing — for example your bank has changed its login process, or the connection was set up under the wrong online banking profile — remove the connection and start fresh:
Step 1. Open the bank card's ⋮ menu, choose Unlink Bank and confirm.
- If you've already categorised transactions from that bank, its accounts and transactions stay in your records — they just stop receiving automatic updates.
- If you haven't categorised anything yet, the bank and its imported transactions are removed completely.
Step 2. Click Link Bank (top right) and connect the bank again from scratch — see How do I connect my bank?.
You can review or withdraw your data-sharing approval at any time via Manage Consent in the bank card's ⋮ menu.
