I'm locked out of 2FA¶
If you can't get the code from your authenticator app (for example, you've lost or replaced your phone), myaccountant gives you several ways back in. Try them in this order.
1. Use a backup code¶
Step 1. On the two-step verification screen, under Having trouble?, click Use a backup code instead.
Step 2. Enter one of the backup codes you saved when you set up 2FA (format: XXXXX-XXXXX), then click Verify Backup Code.
Each backup code works only once.
2. Try another way¶
If you've run out of backup codes, click Try another way on the verification screen. You'll see whichever recovery options you set up:
- Email me a code — sends a code to your backup email address. Enter the code to continue.
- Answer security question — answer the question you chose during setup.
3. Reset your authenticator¶
Once you're signed in, you can move 2FA to a new phone: go to Settings → Profile and click Reset Authenticator (this needs a valid backup code), then set up 2FA again on your new device.
Still locked out?¶
If you've lost your authenticator and have no backup codes or recovery method left, contact support to reset two-factor authentication on your account.
