National Employment Standards¶
Definition. The National Employment Standards are the minimum employment entitlements that apply to most employees in the national workplace system, covering things like leave, maximum weekly hours, public holidays, notice and superannuation.
In plain English¶
The National Employment Standards, or NES, are the baseline rights every covered employee gets, no matter their job. They set the floor for entitlements such as leave and notice. An award or agreement can add extra on top, but it can never drop below this floor.
